CHAIR’S MESSAGE
Thank you for visiting the NBA Women Lawyers Division website! I am honored to humbly serve as Chair of the Women Lawyers Division (WLD) again. I am excited about connecting with you and updating you on the great things that are happening in our division.
As Chair, I have continued to focus on two initiatives: 1) increasing the membership and active participation of women lawyers in the WLD, and 2) increasing the visibility and involvement of the WLD in the community because “We Do It Better Together.” To achieve these goals, the WLD continues to enhance our communication tools to help us stay connected with our members and women lawyers around the world. We also continue to partner with women lawyers associations and women organizations on various projects to provide greater exposure for the WLD in our community.
In addition to advancing our goals, this year is a special time because it marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of the WLD, which is the 2011 NBA “Division of the Year.” The WLD is proud to be “Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence” and will kick off the celebration by hosting its 31st Annual U.S. Supreme Court Swearing-In Ceremony on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in Washington, D.C. The WLD’s 40th Anniversary Celebration events will be held during the NBA 87th Annual Convention in Las Vegas on July 14-19, 2012 (see Save-the-Date postcard below). The anniversary events will include the: Inaugural “Respect Yourself” Day (4th Annual “Respect Yourself” Mentor Program and Woman to Woman Roundtable: “Straight Talk – Can I Get A Little Respect?”) on Saturday, July 14; 40th Anniversary Reception and CLE Program (“Practicing at the Top of Your Game: How Are You Branding Yourself?”) on Monday, July 16; and 40th Annual Networking & Awards Breakfast on Tuesday, July 17. During the celebration, the WLD will honor outstanding African American women lawyers who have been trailblazers in the NBA, WLD and community. We hope that you will join us for this special occasion.
